Learn how cryptocurrency holdings tracked in Lunch Money appear in Projected Cash Flow
Crypto Accounts
Cryptocurrency holdings tracked in Lunch Money are automatically included in your Projected Cash Flow net worth, account list, and projections.
Overview
Crypto account support enables you to:
- See crypto holdings included in your total Net Worth automatically
- View your crypto accounts in their own dedicated section of the dashboard sidebar
- Include crypto accounts in your cash flow projection alongside your other accounts
How It Works
Automatic detection
Projected Cash Flow reads every crypto account associated with your Lunch Money account — whether it's tracked manually or synced automatically through a connected exchange or wallet — and includes it the same way it includes your bank and manual accounts.
The Crypto sidebar section
Crypto holdings appear in their own Crypto group in the account sidebar, separate from your bank accounts and manual assets, so you can tell at a glance which balances come from crypto.
Net Worth and projections
Crypto balances are converted to your primary currency (the same to_base conversion used for all your other accounts) and added into your Net Worth total. If you select a crypto account as part of your projection, its balance is included in the combined total shown on your chart.
Setting Up
There's nothing to configure in Projected Cash Flow itself:
- Make sure your crypto holding is tracked in Lunch Money, either by connecting an exchange/wallet or adding a manual crypto asset
- Open (or refresh) your Projected Cash Flow dashboard
- Your crypto account will appear automatically under the new Crypto section in the sidebar
Adding a new crypto holding
Lunch Money's API doesn't currently support creating a brand-new manual crypto asset from a third-party app. To add one:
- Log in to Lunch Money
- Add a manual crypto asset (or connect a synced source) there
- It will show up in Projected Cash Flow automatically the next time your accounts refresh — no separate step needed here
Use Cases
Tracking total net worth including crypto
If crypto is part of your overall portfolio, your Net Worth now reflects that without any manual addition or side calculation.
Combining crypto with other accounts in a projection
Select your crypto holding alongside your checking and savings accounts to see a combined balance projection that includes all three.
Troubleshooting
My crypto account isn't showing up
- Confirm the holding is actually visible in Lunch Money itself first
- Refresh your Projected Cash Flow dashboard — account data is synced from Lunch Money each time your accounts load
- Check that the account isn't hidden under Account Preferences in Settings
My crypto balance looks slightly different from what I expect
Balances are converted to your primary currency using Lunch Money's own conversion (to_base). If your primary currency differs from the crypto's native denomination, small differences from live market rates can appear depending on when Lunch Money last updated its conversion.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a specific Lunch Money plan for crypto tracking?
Crypto tracking availability depends on your Lunch Money plan. If Lunch Money doesn't return any crypto accounts for your API key, Projected Cash Flow simply won't show a Crypto section — everything else continues to work normally.
Can I edit or update my crypto balance from Projected Cash Flow?
No. Projected Cash Flow only reads your crypto accounts from Lunch Money; balance updates need to happen in Lunch Money itself.
Does this work for both manually-tracked and synced crypto accounts?
Yes, both are included the same way.
