Selecting Multiple Accounts

The dashboard lets you select any combination of your accounts to build a single, combined cash flow projection.

Overview

Multi-account selection enables you to:

  • Select more than one account at a time for your projection
  • Combine balances, recurring items, and category breakdowns across the accounts you choose
  • Save your usual selection so it's there the next time you open the dashboard

How It Works

Selecting accounts

Each account in the sidebar has a checkbox. Click an account to add it to your current selection, click it again to remove it. There's no limit on how many accounts you can select at once.

Select all / Clear

Two controls sit above your account list:

  • Select all selects every account you have
  • Clear deselects everything, returning you to an empty state

Combined totals

Once you've selected one or more accounts:

  • The balance shown at the top of the dashboard is the combined total across your selection
  • The cash flow chart projects that combined balance forward
  • Recurring items from any of your selected accounts appear together, sorted by date
  • The category breakdown and budget widgets reflect only your selected accounts

Your selection is remembered

The accounts you have selected are saved automatically. Close your browser, come back tomorrow, and your dashboard opens with the same accounts selected — no need to re-select them each time.

Setting Up

There's nothing to configure. This works automatically for every account synced through your Lunch Money connection:

  1. Open your dashboard
  2. Click the checkboxes next to the accounts you want to combine
  3. Your projection updates immediately

Use Cases

Everyday spending money

Select your checking and savings together to see your true available cash, rather than checking each account separately.

All your debt in one view

Select every credit card and loan account to see your combined debt payments and due dates on a single timeline.

A specific "project" of accounts

Select just the accounts related to a shared expense — like a joint account and a linked credit card — to project that slice of your finances on its own.

Best Practices

  1. Start broad, then narrow. Use Select all to see your full financial picture, then narrow down to specific accounts when you want to focus on something.
  2. Save distinct views mentally. Since your selection persists, you might keep it set to "everything" most of the time and only narrow temporarily when you need a focused view.
  3. Pair it with the category breakdown. Once you've selected the accounts you care about, the category and budget widgets automatically scope to that same selection.

Troubleshooting

My selection disappeared

Your selection is saved per browser. If you signed in from a different browser or device, or cleared your browsing data, you'll need to reselect your accounts once — they'll be remembered from then on.

An account I expected isn't showing up

Make sure the account isn't hidden under Account Preferences in Settings — accounts marked as ignored there won't appear in the sidebar at all, regardless of selection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a limit to how many accounts I can select?

No. You can select as many accounts as you have.

Does selecting more accounts slow down my projection?

No noticeable difference — the projection engine handles any number of accounts the same way it handles one.

Does this affect my recurring items or one-time transactions?

No. Selecting accounts only changes what's included in your current view; it doesn't modify or delete anything.

Get Started

Open your dashboard and try selecting a couple of accounts together — it's the fastest way to see how your money moves as a whole, not just one account at a time.
